I was looking at a book cataloging species of deep sea fish.
It was my freshman year of college. I'd plotted my schedule so that I only went Monday, Wednesday and Friday to classes. It was Tuesday, my day off. So I was sitting at the kitchen table at my parent's house in my pj's looking at a fish book when the phone rang.
My dad picked it up. It was my uncle, his older brother, who told him to turn on the television to the news station. We watched as they replayed the footage of the plane flying into the tower, and showed live footage of the terrible flames billowing out of the metal gash. We watched the president receive a message, then calmly continue reading to the classroom of children. We speculated on whether or not it was accidental.
Then we watched the second plane fly into the tower.
And I knew the world would never be the same.
